I’m drying out! How to water the body skin?

I have no idea how this happened but lately I’ve been having the impression as if I’ve been shedding the skin like a snake. I’ve never been familiar with the issue of dry skin patches that flake off. I couldn’t complain about having problems with dryness, so you can imagine how surprised I was when two weeks after starting my antibiotic treatment, I observed that despite cured inflammation, my skin got totally dry – I had to take up some action. Now I know how mundane dry skin care is. To be totally honest with you, I had an impression that there wasn’t much that would help my skin retrieve its lost hydration. Luckily, I found something that helped me conquer the dryness. Let me tell you what it was.

What are the causes of dry skin?

After looking into the topic of dry skin, I learnt that this isn’t some kind of a rare condition – it affects up to 50% of whole population. Seriously, I wasn’t aware of this. I was convinced that skin is dry when we don’t treat it with a body balm so it flakes, is rough and so on. Then I found out that this can be the consequence of using a ill-matched skin care product that perfidiously contributes to dehydrating our bodies. Additionally, and as mentioned earlier, this can be a result of taking some medicines (as it was in my case), or just following an unbalanced diet.

How to rescue dry skin?

It’s awfully hard to replenish dry skin with water. My skin, for example, didn’t want to work with me. Every day I kept slathering it with thick layers of various moisturizers, it would absorb pounds of creams and yet it was still dehydrated. Finally I came to the conclusion that a regular body balm wasn’t much help to me then. I understood that I needed a kind of advanced and professional solution. Therefore, I went through dozens of online beauty magazines and the majority of them suggested using one dry skin specialist: ARGAN OIL. Okay, maybe not one. They recommended complementing argan oil with Shea butter and sweet almond oil. I thought that I could give body oil treatment a go since I’m so good at hair oil treatment.

How to apply oils to dry skin?

I used them without no moderation, no limits but in many forms. Oils are essential for skin so it its lipid barrier is in a good condition, and it the case of dehydrated skin, the natural oils rebuild this hydro-lipid barrier. There are numerous ways of using natural oils. I mainly applied them in the form of a body balm, massage oils and as an additive to bathwater, so I:

  • POURED NATURAL OILS TO A BATH FILLED WITH WARM WATER
  • MASSAGED INTO DAMP SKIN AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE BATH
  • RUBBED THE OILS INTO THE SKIN WHILE MASSAGING

Was it enough? Actually it was, but let me tell you that you have to supply the body with the oils on a regular basis, morning and evening. Only then can you enjoy all the benefits these natural cosmetics offer.

What else can you use to hydrate dry skin?

Indeed, natural oils work wonders but are there any other substances that can improve hydration in the skin? Yep, there are. Take hyaluronic acid for example that many women apply to their faces. Try adding a few drops of HA and a few drops of a chosen natural oil to a body balm you use daily. Combine them on the palm of your hand and then spread over the body. Congratulations! You’ve just upgraded your regular body balm.

I’ve also learnt that supplying body with water from within is also beneficial. And I’m not talking about drinking 2 liters of water a day but about delivering hyaluronic acid. However, you must realize that oral substitution makes sense only when you take the hyaluronic acid and drink plenty of water.

Last but definitely not least, dry skin seems to tolerate kid’s products surprisingly well. If you want to, you can try some gel olive oil, dermocosmetics and special kid’s lotions 🙂
