Applying foundation isn’t as easy as it seems. If your make-up skills are at the expert level, then it’s a child’s play but what about make-up beginners? My tried and test ways of using foundation come to rescue. Enjoy reading.
What’s your skin type?
Determining a skin type is a basis for choosing the right foundation. The cosmetic market abounds in make-up products which have different properties, ingredients and effects. Remember to make sure that the foundation goes with the needs of your skin, nobody else’s. Choose between foundations that moisturise, give matte effect, illuminate, even out skin tone, and many more.
Get the right shade
Ideally-matching color of foundation looks like a second skin, giving a natural look. Unfortunately, picking the right shade is a daunting challenge for lots of us. How to get round to it? Apply a bit of foundation to the jawline and wait for a good while. If it blends with the skin, this means it’s made for you. Note that yellow pigments give good coverage whereas pink hues reduce the tired look.
What to apply foundation with?
An applicator affects the durability and quality of your make-up. Choose between sponges, brushes and your fingers. Using a brush or sponge might be tricky at the beginning but you will get the hang of it quickly.
Before applying foundation…
… prime your skin. Use a moisturiser which smoothes out dry skin and doesn’t leave a greasy layer on your face. You may as well apply a primer which evens out skin tone and makes foundation long-lasting. To reduce imperfections, under dark circles and broken blood vessels apply concealer and camouflage them.
