Hello, girls!
Cosmetic oils are a thing in skin and hair care. I’ve been using them long and they’ve never let me down. Today, I will tell you about the effects, benefits and types of oils. Enjoy reading!
What are skin and hair oil benefits?
Creating a layer on the skin and hair surface is their main task. The layer protects from external aggressors and locks water inside hair and skin, as well as increases the resistance to wind and low temps. That’s why oils are recommended for the damaged skin lipid barrier and dry, dehydrated skin. They soothe and condition oily skin, tighten and increase skin density, reduce redness and irritation. Remember that the wrong use of oils may worsen your hair and skin condition – clog skin pores, cause dehydration and lead to oily scalp.
What are hair and skin oils composed of?
Oils include fatty acids, vitamins and nutrients. They quickly regulate the hydration level and make the skin soft, smooth and silky to the touch. Some oils contain antioxidants that keep the skin and hair youthful and shield against free radicals.
Skin and hair oils – classification
There are different classifications of oils. The simplest division mentions three groups: drying, non-drying and slow-drying oils.
- Drying oils are lightweight and fast-drying. They must be stored in low temps as they have short shelf-life. Many refined oils belong to this group; avoid them – they go through chemical processing and don’t deliver any nutrients. Plant seed oils are in this group.
- Slow-drying oils have thicker consistency. They are more stable and include, among others, saturated acids. They are included in cosmetics designed for dry skin care. Avocado oil, hazelnut oil, macadamia oil are the examples of slow-drying oils.
- Non-drying oils are saturated fats. Coconut oil, palm oil, plant butters are the examples. They leave a thick protective layer on the surface of hair and skin and work great for removing makeup. They absorb all impurities; mixed with emulsifiers, they are easy to wash off.
