Hello, beautiful creatures!
I know many of you are still searching for the perfect foundation matching the skin type. I am aware it is not an easy task. I had been looking for ‘the one’ long time. All iconic and rave foundations turned out to be complete failures for my skin. Avon Anew and brilliant Clinique foundations proved to be ideal. I am not going to describe them, though. I would love you to make your own choice about the beloved foundation, without prompting brands.
Before testing a product, take a closer look at your skin. Is it dry, oily or maybe normal?
- Oily skin – thick and shiny, often with open pores. It tends to get pimples and blackheads. It is shiny because of too much sebum secretion.
- Dry or sensitive skin – dull, fragile, thin, often causes the feeling of discomfort and tightness.
- Combination skin – the combination of oily and dry skin. Dry skin on cheeks, shiny T zone – nose, chin and forehead.
- Normal skin – almost perfect. It tolerates all kinds of creams and foundations. It loves moisturising products. Troublefree skin care.
Types of Face Foundations
- Liquid foundation – excellent for the dry and dehydrated skin. It nourishes yet does not leave an airtight crust. The effect is natural. The skin is protected from losing water and drying off.
- Compact foundation – thick products; their main role is coverage. They extend make-up durability and camouflage all blemishes. Compact foundations are a bit too heavy for dry skin but they will be adored by oily skin.
- Loose foundation (yes, yes, there is such a thing). It is usually mineral. You use a large brush – Kabuki – for the application. Mineral foundation is suitable for all skin types yet it is most popular among women with sensitive and irritation-prone skin. It is natural, mild and non-comedogenic. Moreover, it helps heal and protect the skin.
Each of the three foundations can have extra properties e.g. moisturising, working as a base and foundation, lifting… There are mattifying, illuminating, covering foundations… We are spoilt for choice.
Depending on how your skin looks and what it needs, you can choose one of the three types of foundation. Next, focus on its additional qualities.
How to choose the right shade of foundation?
Obviously, slowly and carefully. Do not get tricked into believing that a three shades darker foundation will deliver an amazing suntan… It won’t. It will never ever look natural. Spread some foundation on the jawline (lower part of the cheek). You can also apply a bit of the cosmetic to the neck skin to see if it matches. Another crucial thing! Check the foundation shade in the natural daylight. Artificial light at stores can be misleading. You can apply some foundation and go out to see how it looks in the daylight. Choosing a transparent foundation is a perfect solution. Sadly, few companies offer such cosmetics. Surely, you will need a transparent powder as a finishing touch – for matte, spotless and natural-looking make-up.
Hope you will find the ideal foundation! 🙂
