Why should you protect your hair against high temperatures?
The answer is simple. 80% of hair is made up of keratin while heat destroys keratin bondings. This results in a coarse texture of hair, breakage, dryness and splitting.
Applying a thermal protection product will fully damage-proof your hair by creating a kind of a barrier. There are different types of such items but I’m a fan of sprays because using them is the easiest and quickest.

I loved this product even before putting it in my hair – the black bottle with golden elements looks very elegant, plus it’s big and lasts me long. It has a spray nozzle which makes application trouble-free. Just a few sprays are enough to cover my long hair evenly. I love the amazing fresh scent which stays on my strands long. Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray contains hydrolyzed silk proteins which have a hydrating, smoothing and shine-enhancing effect. 2. BALMAIN Thermal Protection Spray
A hair spray from a fashion designer? Why not! It doesn’t have a steep price so it’s definitely worth trying. It’s another product which shields against 430℉/220℃. Beyond that, it gently moisturizes the hair, leaves it easier to detangle and prevents static flyaways. The formula includes silk and panthenol which complement each other brilliantly. It’s easy to use and widely available, and has a standard size, 200 ml.
3. BUMBLE AND BUMBLE Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer
A beautiful bottle houses oil-based hair mist. It contains six oils! I mention that right off because I know it may be too much for some hair types. To me, such a blend is okay. Contrary to what you might think, the product isn’t greasy. Apart from protection, it ensures resilience and slightly moisturizes the hair.
4. KEVIN MURPHY Ever Smooth Spray
This product is meant for use on wet hair before blow-drying, and that’s how I usually use it. The spray is also great for straightening. KEVIN MURPHY Ever Smooth ensures excellent protection against high temperatures, plus smooths the hair and prevents frizz. Too bad it didn’t last me as long as other products. Given the high price, it isn’t the best choice.
5. L’OREAL PARIS Elseve Dream Long
If you want a real budget product then you can try L’OREAL PARIS Elseve Dream Long, but I definitely recommend paying slightly more and getting better effects with other products from my reviews. Still, the heat protectant from L’Oreal guards the hair from thermal damage. It isn’t as powerful as other sprays I review but it brings intense shine. I like to use it as a serum for hair ends.
6. WELLA EIMI Sugar Lift Spray
There’s a reason why I put this spray at the end of the ranking. It has the weakest effect when it comes to protection from heat. It has some other benefits, though. WELLA EIMI Sugar Lift Spray is great for boosting shine, smoothing the hair and taming unruly strands. I usually use it to make a style last longer – it’s a healthier alternative to hairsprays. It has a good price but we need a large amount for single use.
